Almost A New Year

Well, 2007 was pretty exciting for me, writing wise. It saw the publication of three of my books. I hope that I can get something out there for 2008 but I'm not sure. At this point I'm still not finished with Dreamer's Sea. I've upped my goal word count from 80k to 90k. Currently I'm nearly to 83k. Can't complain but I'm also getting to the point that I just want it done! One goal that I'd LOVE to reach this coming year, even if I don't get anything published, is to finish Dreamer's Sea and find an agent. That is my number one goal.

Now, also in 2008 I do know that I'll have 2 of my books coming out in print. Sweet Forever will be available in print February 26th, 2008 and Where One Road Leads will come out in print later in the year. Stay tuned for contests!

Exciting news! Finally Home has been nominated for Best Romance of 2007 long e-book format over at The Long And The Short Of It . Polls open on Tuesday January 1st!
I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!

5 Days Til Christmas.....gulp
I'm so unprepared this year. I've only gotten a fraction of my shopping done and even though I'm a last minute shopper, this year I'm really really late. It's ridiculous. I only get one day off a week (though I get out at 1:30 every day but Saturday I also have 4 kids-and I'm not going Christmas shopping with 4 kids). My one day off this past week we had a major snowstorm. No shopping. My mom was nice enough to watch the kids yesterday and I got some done, but there's still so much to do.

So, will I be a horrible person if I don't get my sister and brother's presents in time. After all, they're not going to get them on time ANYWAY. I'm just a horrible person.

I blame part of this on the cold that's knocked me down. I've had a horrible cough that hurts my neck (not throat) and keeps me awake at night. Yah, I should go to the doctors but I hate making that trip... with 4 kids.

whine whine whine.

Dreamers Sea is getting longer and longer and longer. I hit the 81K mark the other day and I still have a HUGE scene to add. Wow. Maybe it's going to be too long. I hope not. Well, better too long than too short. But I really have to get it finished. Next week is going to be a loss. Everyone is home (but me) on vacation. Usually that's not condusive to writing.

Off I go to get ready for work.

A Christmas Meme
I borrowed this from Marianne who borrowed it from Judy

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? both. I'm horrible at wrapping anything but simple square or rectangle boxes

2. Real or artificial tree? I love the smell of real, but I'm so paranoid that it would get too dry catch on fire and burn my house down so we go with a very nice artificial.

3. When do you put up the tree? Generally 2-3 weeks before Christmas.

4. When do you take the tree down? by New Years Day

5. Do you like eggnog? Love it!

6. Favorite gift received as a child? My Breyer horses that I collected as a child.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? I wish. I'd really love to have one.

8. Hardest person to buy for? My sister in law. She has everything.

9. Easiest person to buy for? My mom. She either wants bath salts or lotion, chocolate or puzzles. Easy.

10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? It wasn't exactly bad but I got a food dehydrator and a juicer from my DH one year. Ever the practical man. I like a little frivolous this time of year. He's made up for it since.

11. Mail or email Christmas cards? either one.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Charlie Brown Christmas tied with The Grinch.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Um....right about now.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yes

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? My mom's coffee cake which she only makes for Christmas. And her Christmas Eve prime rib.

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear

17. Favorite Christmas song? Several... Wasailing Song, Good King Wenceslas, We Three Kings

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? stay home

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen, and Rudolph.

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? Christmas morning

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? The crowds and traffic.

23. Do you decorate your tree in any specific theme or color? No specific theme.

24. What do/did you leave for Santa? plate of cookies and a glass of milk.

Old Dreams
I've been listening to Nora Robert's Birthright on cd and it's been reminding me of something that I had always wanted to do growing up.... well, two things really. The heroine is an archaeologist. The hero is an anthropologist. I went into college with the intention of going into one field or the other. Unfortunately I didn't A) choose the right college and B)was lured away from my intended path by the dazzle of the stage. But before all I wanted to do was to dig. I would've been happy to dig dinosaur bones too (after all the famous T-Rex named Sue was found on my cousin's ranch in South Dakota-I would've had a perfect place to go).

Luckily as I listen to the story it also makes me want to write. Writing is a much older dream to me than being a digger.

But instead I was stuck in the office doing the most boring of all jobs on earth. I guess I'm lucky that I could go home and write.
