On The Brink
Yes folks, tomorrow is the big day. I'm really not pleased that November is starting on a Saturday. I actually find weekends the most difficult time to write. If I get up early to get something done I'm generally followed by my DH who loves to chit chat. And I work a full day on Saturday. And Sunday we need to paint. No, every November should begin on Monday.

I'm really looking forward to this story. While I had a touch of the paranormal in Dreamer's Sea, this one will have a full fledged haunting. Been watching Ghost Hunters for my tips.
Diane Craver has my hero up as her Hottie Of The Week.

Speaking of Dreamer's Sea, I've decided that it's in NO WAY done. I thought it would be easier than it would be, but of course I've been distracted lately. I did hear back from one of the agents I queried. A polite no thank you but good luck form letter. Okay, I'm not bummed (well, a little) but I don't wear rose colored glasses either. I would not be surprised if I fall flat on my face with these three agents.
Someone will love it. There's an agent for me out there somewhere!

I missed a lot of writing time yesterday with an unexpected trip to the doctor. My calf has been hurting with a cramp like ache for a day and a half so I had to check it out because of the worry of blood clots. Had an ultrasound done on it. Thank goodness its all clear. Still sore but no iminent death lurking down there. Then I had to do laundry. Blah. I need to be rich so I can hire someone else to do that stuff.

Okay, time to get to editing.

Searching For An Agent
Yesterday I began the serious hunt for an agent. I'm thinking of going for one that takes electronic submissions. I've been sweating over my synopsis (which is a 4-letter word in my opinion) but I've found that most of these agents only want a 1 page query to begin with. Okay, so I'm going to have to squish 105K words into one page. Need to brush up on my blurb writing.

Of course I wouldn't be off the hook for that synopsis. If they're interested I'd still have to write one.

This is pretty big! But I've been slacking in the publishing area. I'm ready for something new to come out.

No word from Harlequin yet. Still have another month. Maybe this is a good thing. ???

Well, the beautiful glow of autumn is nearly gone. It was so short lived. We're into the frost season now. Scraping off the windows each morning. Just one day closer to that first snowfall, which I actually like. The first few are wonderful. By New Years Day I'm ready for green grass and seventy degrees. As soon as I make my millions I'm definitely buying a winter home far from here.

Half Way There And One More Day To Go
Yes, school is back in session tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it with mixed feelings. On one hand I've been really enjoying the fact that I don't have to wake anyone up in the morning. They can get up when they want, which gives me much peace and quiet in the mornings and it means I can go into work early so I can get out early. And they've reached the age where they can take over some of the chores that I've had to get done in the morning before work.

But now I have to get them up and make sure they have lunches, have to share the bathroom and make sure they're out the door on time. My quiet is shaved down considerably. And I have to go in to work later, which means getting out later. And dealing with homework woes. Math is not a popular subject around here and I hear it. I'm just as bad at math so it's not like I can even help them out much. My DS is good though. I'm sure there'll come a day very soon when he'll be helping them with their math homework.

Then there's my editing. I've reached the halfway mark in editing Dreamer's Sea. Now that doesn't include critiques, which are coming in slowly. But at least I feel like I'm making good progress despite the things that take me away from it (pesky things like laundry and shopping and work).

I've been thinking of whether or not I'll be attempting NaNoWriMo this year. I have an idea of a story I could write but it would be MEGA WORK. It's a fantasy.

I guess it depends on where I am with Dreamer's Sea by November 1st. I hope it'll be finished. Fingers are crossed. I want it to be read by many agents (or just one) by November 1st.

Wish me luck.

To Join Or Not To Join
I've been looking at my options, ways to get my work noticed, whether it be taking it to an agent or straight to a publisher. Someone recommended that, if I couldn't go to conferences and pitch my work (which I can't at this time), then entering into contests is a good way to get noticed.

Fine, I've done that before. It was kind of fun. While I didn't bowl over the judges, I certainly wasn't told never ever to get near a Word document again. From all the comments I received I was very confident that I could go on and become published. So I went to several websites for RWA chapters to check out their contests. Most that I found required an RWA membership.

I've heard mixed opinions about whether it was worth it to join up with RWA and my state chapter. I can see definite perks, but I've heard that there are some in RWA that look down their noses on e-publishers. Not all, but some. The NH chapter I know has several e-published authors. And then there's the NH branch. I doubt very much that I'd be able to get to the meetings, I'm not exactly in the neighborhood.

So, is it worth it? Would it make me more marketable? Are those contests really worth it?

Well, we're back in a deep freeze here. I miss those nice 50 degree days. Right now it's 11 degrees. Times like this I want to move down to Arizona.

Searching For An Agent
Even though Dreamer's Sea isn't completed and has to go through the long process of edits I'm still looking around for a prospective agent. There's a great list over at Charlotte Dillon's website. But man, it's a looong list! I guess that's a good thing, the more agents to chose from the better. But it just makes me realize how much work I have ahead of me before I can even send out a query! My first query I ever sent out was to Silhouette and guess what, they wanted to see the entire manuscript. Which wasn't finished. Ya wanna talk about panic to get it done?????

Never ever ever do that. Well, that's my opinion anyway. It took too long to finish the story (Finally Home) and it wasn't as polished as I had hoped and therefore (and rightly so) it was rejected. After more time, though, I sent it to Whiskey Creek and they loved it.

So no more of that silliness. I don't want to send out any manuscript until it's as perfect as I can get it.

But I'm chompin at the bit to get a new book out there!!!!!!
