Half Way There And One More Day To Go
Yes, school is back in session tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it with mixed feelings. On one hand I've been really enjoying the fact that I don't have to wake anyone up in the morning. They can get up when they want, which gives me much peace and quiet in the mornings and it means I can go into work early so I can get out early. And they've reached the age where they can take over some of the chores that I've had to get done in the morning before work.

But now I have to get them up and make sure they have lunches, have to share the bathroom and make sure they're out the door on time. My quiet is shaved down considerably. And I have to go in to work later, which means getting out later. And dealing with homework woes. Math is not a popular subject around here and I hear it. I'm just as bad at math so it's not like I can even help them out much. My DS is good though. I'm sure there'll come a day very soon when he'll be helping them with their math homework.

Then there's my editing. I've reached the halfway mark in editing Dreamer's Sea. Now that doesn't include critiques, which are coming in slowly. But at least I feel like I'm making good progress despite the things that take me away from it (pesky things like laundry and shopping and work).

I've been thinking of whether or not I'll be attempting NaNoWriMo this year. I have an idea of a story I could write but it would be MEGA WORK. It's a fantasy.

I guess it depends on where I am with Dreamer's Sea by November 1st. I hope it'll be finished. Fingers are crossed. I want it to be read by many agents (or just one) by November 1st.

Wish me luck.

Making Progress
First of all, congrats to Marianne on her release of Kitchen Matches!

I've been making some progress finally on my edits. I've been going through my first three chapters and cutting out back story like a mad woman. I've added some new stuff and broke up one chapter into two chapters. I've ended up with an extra 4 pages because of this. I hope though that it's a better start, not that the original was bad but I have a horrible habit of being repetitive with my information, being a little too introspective and adding too much back story in big lumps. I've really gotten mixed opinions on the subject, from readers and writers alike, but the general concensus is that too much back story is not a good thing. Okay, fine, I can deal with that.

We actually have sunshine here. It's been so stormy this summer. Makes everything green, but it also makes my kids crazy because they can't get out like they want. And school starts in less than 3 weeks. They're not happy about that.

So, now I'm going to grab a few minutes of editing before I have to go do something I really don't want to do.

I'm In Love... And Heartbroken

Because the house I want is under contract and not with me. I know that it doesn't want to belong to anyone else but my family. Really. I can sense it.

I made the mistake of going to look at it. Just makes me want it more.

Okay, so it's not a mansion. It's not perfect, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. The yard is a complete disaster. It's going to take a back hoe to get it fixed up, but there are such beautiful flowers and my mom is dying to get her hands into them. Lots of ragweed and lots of (Marianne you'll appreciate this) of milkweed.

The inside would take ages to paint and fix up, but its all cosmetic stuff for the most part. There's three stair cases from the first floor to the second, there's rooms all over the place (house was built in 1900). Every where you turn there's a different room. A person could get lost. And the kids could have their own parts of the house. And there's a perfect little office just for me.

And most likely it's going to belong to someone else.

Life is just so unfair!

Here is MY house

And here it is again...

See how much it needs me??

Tomorrow I plan on doing lots of writing.

Tonight I plan on crashing.

What was that? What did I say?
Funny, I thought I'd said I was going to get back to edits on Dreamer's Sea. Well, no, that didn't happen. Spent the weekend being sick. Couldn't even manage more than a few hours at work on Saturday. So I spent the rest of the weekend pretty much sleeping it off. Don't know where it came from, but it was a very nice little bug.

Now it's Monday I'm ready to go back to work. Got the editing started already. I'm being a good doobee and cutting out chunks of backstory. I really hope that this'll be the last time I'll have to revise chapters 1-3. I'm still getting mixed replies about backstory. A friend of mine, who is a reader not a writer, says she really likes backstory, it gives her a better understanding of the character. She asked a group, some writers and some not. The writers said go light on the backstory but the readers said they liked it. Maybe not as much as I put in, but they definitely liked some.

So, it's a fine line. I'm going to be cautious though and cut more than I'd like to cut.

Fingers crossed! I'm hoping to hear from the real estate agent to go look at the house. Of course I'm afraid to apply for the loan. *apply chicken noises*. Are we really ready for such a step???????? Maybe we should look for something smaller and less expensive (though this house is pretty inexpensive). Oh, the doubts! But I really want to give my kids a house. And if it helps, there's a den that could be my office. Maybe that would help with taxes (anyone?). After all, I've been craving my own private writing space forever!

Uhoh... someone is awake.

That means it's time to get back to writing.
