House Hunting And Finishing Books
I've been doing some goofing off the past few days because my arms have been hurting yet again. Too much data entry at work is wreaking havoc on my writing career.

So what have I been doing? Reading an excellent book called Flirting With Pete by Barbara Delinsky. I can't wait to read more of her books. She bases her stories in New England which makes them even better. I could hardly put the book down.

But I did and I was looking for houses. We're outgrowing our apartment (we did a long time ago) and my SD is c0ming back at the end of August for another school year so it'll be that much more crowded. So I found a nice big house a few towns over. A bedroom for everyone! Plus an office for me!! Okay, so it needs some work, but we're up for that. Okay, it'll cost more than what we're paying now, but it would be ours!

My fingers are crossed but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Tonight, arms allowing, I'll get back to Dreamer's Sea edits. Joy oh joy.

George As Johnny
Had to post this. George Canyon... one of my favorite country singers....

AND WRITING...

I'm still copying what I have handwritten for Where I'll Stay onto my computer. I'm almost done. Then I'm going to put it aside and get back to the matter at hand. Dreamer's Sea. The most frustrating wip I've ever worked on. I have to be the most fickle writer in the world because I've had more starts and stops with this story in the last few weeks, more changes of ideas. But in the end I think what I'll do is rewrite the first three chapters (at least) and cut out the back story as much as I can. Heck, I may be able to combine all three chapters into one. We'll see. All I know, is I just want this finished. Today. Yeah, that's not likely.

Unfortunately at work we're neck deep into our busy season (one of two). I'm typing from 6:30am to 1:30pm every day. Then I come home and type. My arms are getting sore.

WHAT I'M READING: Flirting With Pete by Barbara Delinsky. I generally don't explore new writers too much, I stick with my favorites, but I'm so glad I've given her a try. I love her style.

Off I go, need to finish my writing.

More Fun
I generally stay away from politics here, but I always love Jib Jab videos. They are equal opportunity mockers.

I Gotta Do What I Gotta Do
Thanks Marianne and Diana for your advice. I think I've faced it.... I need to rip apart my first chapter and start it from scratch. Maybe the first three chapters. I've heard that some writers just chuck the first several chapters and start further into the story.

I don't know if I can go that far, but I believe a total revamp is in order. And I have no idea how I'm going to start it.

In the meantime I've been getting lots done on Where I'll Stay, which is the sequel to Sweet Forever. No blocks there so I'm letting it flow. Since it's all new stuff I can bring a notebook with me wherever I go and just write. At this rate, I'll have this wip done and out to a publisher before I'm through with Dreamer's Sea. But I love DS and I want to give it my best.

Even if that means ripping it apart.

At least the crits, for the most part, have been positive. People like the hero and heroine and that's pretty important. I just have to cut out the backstory. Yes, I said it... back story. I have it.... lots of it... HELLO, MY NAME IS CERI AND I'M A BACKSTORY JUNKIE.

Okay, I feel better.

And now for a little frivolty. (did I spell that right?)

Or how about this....

Juggling
I've got two writing projects up in the air right now. I've got the edits and the crits going on Dreamer's Sea and I've been typing my fingers off to get my notebook full of Where I'll Stay onto my Word document. I'm really happy with this WIP. The heroine in this story is so different from my heroine in Dreamer's Sea. She's actually fun to write. I'm going to hate to leave her behind when I have to get back to DS full time.

The crits I've been getting for DS have been for the most part really positive. The one thing people have been saying that the beginning is a bit long and not much action. It frustrates me a bit. I feel like I'm walking a fine line here. It's a longer book than the others, I liked taking the time to set up the scene, draw the reader in. But I don't want to lose them either.

I know I've agonized over this before. And I'm sure I'll agonize over it again.

At least I don't have this problem with Where I'll Stay. But it's a totally different story.

The dreaded summer work has arrived. I may have to be putting in some overtime at work to get what I need to do. Just great. Oh well... my bank account is hungry.

And now for a little fun....

We're Outta The Woods...
I'm hearing a Wizard of Oz song in my head.... when Dorothy and Co. come out of the woods and they can see the Emerald City. I think I've finally come out of my funk and can get back to some good editing.

Of course didn't Dorothy get knee-deep in poppies that knocked her right out? Dang. Maybe I need a new comparison.

Anyway, I got some crits on my chapter 1 so I have something new to work with. I DO want this manuscript done, completely, so I can get it sent out.

So, after work today I'll be getting back to what's important.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I actually had THREE WHOLE DAYS OFF! It was incredible. The drive to the airport went well. It was hard getting up at 130am but the trade off was well worth it. Traffic was nearly non existent. We had to deal with rain, but that's okay. Rain is better than traffic in Boston. I'd do that again!

Back to work today. Yippeeee. Must remember my mp3 player!!!!! It's a long day without music.

Writing Funk
Yeah, nothing has changed since last night. I keep telling myself that if I just push through a little more I'll get more into the story, and this should be a hint to me that maybe something is lacking in the story and I need to fix it.

Later. Right now I'm reading over what I have done on my Sweet Forever sequel. If anything, it'll at least give me a break for a day. And this is a "safe" manuscript because it's my next big project. I know I have to stay away from anything new (no matter how much it's digging at me lately).

Well tomorrow early early we're heading to Boston to Logan for my stepdaughter's flight. She leaves at 5:30am. We're hearing mixed opinions on the drive down. After all, it is 4th of July. I've heard that there won't be any traffic that early to worry about. No one is going to be traveling into the city for the festivities THAT early. We should be in and out before people are on the road. My DH, however, heard that people will be coming into the city early so they can get their spots picked out for the fireworks etc so it could be just as snarly.

I just want it over with. Driving to Boston, to me, is no treat. And to have to leave at 2:30am is just plain cruel. But then again, the biomom did book the ticket.... oh, did I just say that????? Oops.

What Am I Reading~Still White Mare's Daughter. It's very interesting. The good guy is in a position to be a very bad guy. I'm interested to see what he decides to do.

What Am I Writing~Well, I think I already maintained that I'm not doing what I should be doing. I only touched the editing yesterday (but I had so many errands yesterday that I didn't get a chance to do much) and now I've got "Where I'll Stay" open. That's the sequel to Sweet Forever.

On a serious and sad note, please everyone say a prayer for Brooke Bennett and her family today. She's the girl from Vermont who went missing last week. That prompted me to put up the Amber Alert on my blog. They found her body yesterday. As a mother of a 12 year old (not that being a parent should be the only requirement), this scares the heck out of me. I hope that justice is served in this tragedy and that she's safe now.

Not Lovin It
I've been editing as much as I can and I gotta say I'm getting the blues. I'm just not feeling the story right now. I'm not feeling the romance and I'm just plain tired of the story. Oh, I still think it's a good story and I think it'll sell, but I just don't want to look at it right now. I want to work on another couple, a couple wiht a little more fire than Sarah & Jonas have (Dreamer's Sea is a fairly tame romance)

And to make matters worse, I have another story that's been poking at me (like an annoying little child who can't take no for an answer).

I need my willpower. I need to be strong and stay the course and get this story ready to go to an editor.

Please someone smack me upside the head to get me back on track.

Thanks.

Maybe this'll get me in the mood....
