Growing A Garden....Is It Just Cruel?
Seriously. I just kill plants. Why would a veggie patch be any different? Luckily for all involved, especially the harmless lives of the tomato, pea, and corn plants, they'll be living at my mother's house and she has a green thumb. But I can just hear them shrieking with terror at my approach.

I really need to read up on gardening. We want to grow corn. Can you buy corn that's already starting to grow, or is this something you start growing from a seed (in a hole with a dead fish)? If my mom was smart she'd make me my own "special" garden that's always green and healthy....and plastic. I'd probably never know the difference.

I tell ya, this is definitely going outside my comfort zone.

Despite a busy weekend the writing is coming along pretty well. I miss having something to edit, but that'll come eventually. For now I'm giving my attention to The Staying Kind, which is/was my 2007 NaNo project. I never made it to 50K with it, but I'm almost there now. It's turning into a relatively steamy project, but I have to make sure there's plenty of sigh-inducing romance, which is difficult when my heroine doesn't believe in love and romance. My hero is working on that though.

My mind, though, is on how to make Dreamer's Sea into something viable. Marketable. Need that strong oompf. Right now it's just a calm ride, but who wants to read that? But I'm not going to rush it. Still have SK and another one that needs more editing.

Now I have to get ready for a fun filled day of work.

But now for something to make you laugh.

Spring Is Thiiiiisss Close
What a beautiful weekend! I know it wasn't amazingly warm, but after the winter we've had, anything over 35 degrees is a pleasure. And any day that we can turn off the heat and open the windows is definitely a good day.

I was on the run for a good part of the weekend, hitting WallyWorld for some grocery shopping, dropping DD off for her Special Olympic basketball tournament, going to my father in law's. But I managed to get a good deal of new writing done and lots of editing, so it was a good weekend. I'm not pleased about going back to work though. I want to stay home and finish my editing. I'm going to be doing a bit of running around this week, but I'm hoping it won't cut into my normal writing schedule.

Just need to have nice weather. I have to take above mentioned DD up north to the "big" hospital for her cardiologist appointment. It's not a bad ride, but it's a long one.

Okay, I really need to get ready for work. Writing done for the morning, but I hit my goal, so I'm okay.

The Sun Is Out
And snow is melting. We got wholloped again yesterday with a nice combination of snow and freezing rain. Kids were off school AGAIN, but today is beautiful and sunny and everything is melting. Well, for now.

Well, I've hit another snag in my 2008 NaNo story. The end is so close I can taste it, but I really have to do something about these dull no action parts. I'm building up the romance between my hero and heroine but she has two children so I have to do it in a way that puts the kids best interest first. Meaning dates have to be kept at a minimum and no sleepovers. It's a challenge, but I'm up for it. What I've been doing over the last few days is moving back and forth between this one and my young adult fantasy story. When I run dry on one I go back to the other.

BUT February is almost here, and that means EDIT TIME. Yes. Forever Home needs me. I've sat it on a shelf for about 3 weeks now to let it stew. I think I'm ready to push up my sleeves and get back to work. In the meantime I've "signed" up for another month of writing challenges with my
JaNoWriMo pals. It was such a productive month, even if I'm 10k short of my goal. Well, I do have the rest of the week left to finish. Just have to get past sticky spots in the story. Or just write another scene and go back and fill in what needs to be filled in. Yeah, that's what I'll do. It's a good story and I would really like to finish it.

IN OTHER NEWS my computer is back to normal. I have no idea what was up with it the other morning, but the next time I turned it on it was how it should've been, complete with "my" Chowder background (Chowder is a strange kids show my son likes). My DH said he didn't touch it so who knows what happened.

Cat is still being a pain. Appointment with the vet is being made in the next day or so. (Okay Marianne, why didn't I think about taking care of this BEFORE she got to this stage?)

ROMANTIC SONG OF THE DAY

I love this movie, love this scene...

Just wish it didn't get cut off at the end.

Okay, DS just walked in. I should pretend I'm working.

Hi Honey, I'm Home
At long last I'm back in my own digs. My mom is on her way back now from Boston.

Her dog will be pleased. Molly is the sweetest dog in the world, very well behaved and just all around awesome. It was a pleasure to watch her, but I'm sure she'll be happy to have my mother home. And now I can settle back at my computer. Which isn't necessarily a great thing. Being without the internet for over a week was actually very liberating. I got a LOT done on my sequel to Sweet Forever (now titled Forever Home) and I have plotted out a very important scene. And I've been daydreaming about another wip. I really don't need to be thinking about anything but what I'm working on, but I can't help it.

Congrats to Marianne! She just received her author copies of One Love For Liv. Always an awesome moment for any writer!

I can't believe that December is here. I'm very sorry to say that I don't easily get into the Christmas spirit. I look at all these blogs about how people are decorating and shopping and I just get frustrated. November and December are our most expensive months, and that has nothing to do with Christmas. It has to do with car registrations, other birthdays, now our dear landlord has decided to make us pay for our own heat, we have the joy of shelling out several hundred dollars to have our tanks filled and a few other bills that just make me wince (long story, won't go into it).

I know money isn't everything, things aren't everything (although tell that to that mob at Walmart in NY last week), but there are so many expectations, most of which I put on myself. I used to get nice Christmas bonuses at work that would help take the edge off, but the company I work for doesn't do that. We get flowers. And this year they've been hit financially too and there are whispers about layoffs after Christmas.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Christmas this year.

Wow, where did this all come from???? I am SO sorry to be depressing!

Maybe I should just go back to my mom's and not touch the internet anymore.

Recipe Friday
Maybe this'll be a weekly thing. Because it's getting really cold here (won't get above freezing today) there's nothing like a good chili.

Here's a recipe I got from my father in law and cook it in a crock pot.

Ingredients:

1 lb hamburger
1 can baked beans
1 can butter beans
1 can kidney beans
2 packs medium chili mix
1 lb bacon (I like using the maple flavor) cut into small pieces
1 can diced garlic & basil tomatoes
1 sm can tomato paste
1 onion diced

Combine all beans, tomatoes and chili mix into crock pot or large pot and set temp on low. In a skillet, brown hamburger until nearly done. Add chopped onions and sliced up bacon. Cook in skillet until bacon is cooked. Drain fat (some people though think it adds flavor to the chili and leave it in). Add to the crock pot. Simmer all day, stirring occasionally.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I did pretty well on writing yesterday even though it was another day of running around. Laundry this time. And I got my hair chopped. It's much shorter than I've worn it in years and years and I'm not sure I like it this short. My DH, who prefers long hair, didn't say a word. At least he didn't give me a horrified look.
Finished up the bake sale stuff with pudding. Yikes! How come four cups of milk only yields 8 small cups of pudding? Hardly worth the effort. Would've been cheaper to just go out and buy some premade pudding. And I made jello. 5 cups. Whoopie.
My day wasn't complete until my son got horribly sick. Sooo we've been up and down all night. It's going to be a really stinky day. To top it off, I have a quarterly meeting today at work. This meeting (which is just financial stuff) combined with lack of sleep is going to be bad bad bad. I just hope I don't doze off.
Starting Sunday we'll be spending a week house/dog sitting for my mom as she heads off to Texas for Thanksgiving. She doesn't have regular internet there. She has webtv. It's not even worth it. I'll be stopping at home at least once a day to check emails. But I will be bringing my laptop with me so I can get plenty of writing done. Maybe it'll be nice not having the added distraction of the internet. But I'll have the added distraction of DH.
Well, time to get ready for work. Have to drive the bake salers into school today.
