Well, we did it. Survived another trip to Logan. We got there early again and it didn't start snowing until we were nearly there.
So, we had another long wait. My DS rode the escalator to his hearts content (hey, we're small town folk). The flight arrived... early.... without us knowing. There's no TV screen that announces flight status, so we had no clue until SD called us... nearly 20 minutes after she arrived. Of course we should've staked the place out to find out where she would come out, but we didn't. So therefore she didn't get her luggage. Said she didn't see it on the carousel. And no airline personnel ANYWHERE. I called the toll free number, they gave me the local office number and I called that. No one. Come on... why is there no airline staff anywhere? Sure its past midnight, but seriously. So, we left. It was snowing like crazy and it was a hairy ride home. Lots of traffic, lots of crazy driver (like the big SUV doing about 65 with no headlights).
But we made it and now we have to figure out how to get her bag, which is waiting for her at Logan (they'll fedex it to us at our expense). I'm planning on taking a bus down this time. I can't do that drive again. At least I can relax on a bus.
But not today.
Lots of snow here, probably a foot. Ugh ugh ugh. Why isn't it May?
I've put aside my short story. Just wasn't talking to me. In it's place I started writing the fantasy. I've discovered that it's a lot more work than a contemporary romance. I keep having to stop to look up bits of information. But it's all worth it. Here is the collage for the story.
So, I was feeling cruddy today so I stayed home. Decided to watch a movie, just a break from writing. Well, I had to chose the longest movie I could find. Sex In The City. I had no idea that it was sooooo long. I've decided that it's too cynical for me. I like romances dripping with romance, not cynical movies where the shoes and the ridiculous clothes are more important than the romance.
But that's just me.
Oh joy, more snow and ice and sleet and freezing rain tomorrow! What a winter we've had so far!
We have a VERY active cat. I mean, crazy, acrobatic, no fear cat. She's about 6 months old and it's not uncommon to see her flying through the air and getting into places that a normal cat just shouldn't be able to get into. We haven't put up our Christmas tree yet (yes, we're one of those families who have an artificial tree), were thinking of decorating this coming weekend (we're also one of those families who don't decorate right after Thanksgiving) but we're honestly rethinking the tree because we know what's going to happen if we put a tree up. Hemi will be taking it down on a daily basis. Can you say TIMBER!!!! My son has suggested crating Hemi for the next several weeks. Hey, he's only nine. That obviously isn't an option. So, how does one change the very nature of a cat in time for a little holiday cheer? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm already over 65K on Forever Home. I just wrote a scene I wasn't expecting to write but I think I may take it out, save it for possible use, but get back to where I was planning on being. As dramatic as it is, I don't think its necessary to the plot. Not that I'm unhappy about being over 65K I was really hoping to end it before that so I could sub it to Harlequin Superromance which has a word count of 60-65K. But even with taking that scene out I don't think I can wrap it all up within that range. I have two more very important things that must happen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We got a little snow yesterday. Not enough to shovel, but I'm sure I'll be scraping the car off this morning. Bluck. What happened to the weekend? Oh, that's right, my weekend only consists of one day. Well, time to do a scenectomy. Get back where I need to be.
Wow, it hasn't snowed for...what 2 days? And there seems to be a pattern. Every Tuesday/Wednesday for the past 3 weeks we've been getting hit. Someone doesn't want me to have my quiet Wednesday afternoons when the kids are off at Grandma's house for a few hours. What did I do to deserve this???
I had a pretty productive day of writing, despite the errands I had to run and the phone call that wouldn't die. I wrote about 1500 words and I still have oodles on paper that need to be transfered over to the computer. I'm loving it, though I'm sure that means I'll hit a roadblock soon. It helps that I have a friend who enjoys brainstorming with me.
One of my coworkers came up to me yesterday and told me that the owner of the local bookstore said that anytime I want to come in and talk to him I'm welcome to. So what I need to do is get a few copies of Finally Home and bring them in. I'm not sure they work with Whiskey Creek. On their website they have Samhain books listed, but not WCP. But this is cool. Could be a very good start! Get some starry-eyed romantic souls in there and sell some books!
Okay, onto the daily inspiration. The following singer is Nova Scotian country singer, George Canyon. I ADORE this guy. He came in 2nd in the 2nd season of Nashville Star and is extremely popular up in Canada but for some reason hasn't made a name for himself down here. I don't know why.
Wow, it's getting late. Need to get some writing done.
While I'm thrilled that I've reached over 90K on Dreamer's Sea I'm wondering if I'm just rambling now. What's the point of the story? Have I lost it by making it this long? At this point I just want it done. Over with. Kaput. Adios muchachos. Yet I find myself writing another scene... a scene that probably has no purpose. It was supposed to lead to the conclusion of the story but since I've decided to end the story another way then I wonder if I need this scene at all. Maybe it's time to just put this baby to bed. I'm so eager to start another writing project that at this point I don't even want to look at DS for the edits. Not yet. Sure I can't wait to start my search for an agent, but I don't want to sacrafice my story just to have it done. So today after work I think I'll have to sit down and reevaluate where I am and where the story is heading. The last thing I want to do is to keep writing for the sake of a high word count. I'm already way over what any Harlequin or Silhouette line would take-not that I'm aiming for them necessarily. Well we got about a foot of snow, all said and done, yesterday. It was a treat to shovel it. Luckily we have a snowblower that did most of the heavy stuff. Now I just wish our bleepin neighbors (teenagers basically) would get off their backsides and shovel out their parking spot instead of having their friends just driving through and over the foot of snow that's there or parking in someone elses spot. Oh how I want a house of my own.
Winter in New England has returned. Any minute they're going to post that school has been cancelled today. Three kids will be thrilled and one kid will be bummed. But it matters not to me, I'll still be going to work. At least I can walk to work instead of driving. I really need to invest in a pair of snow shoes or cross country skiis for days like this. I'm so close to my 90K mark on Dreamer's Sea! Wow! I've never written anything this long! It's the neverending story. I'm sure that means there'll be tons of stuff I can remove. I don't want it to be a boring story. But I do want it to be a finished story! Because I really really really want to get on with my next story. Oh, yeah, and I'm looking forward to having my baby ripped apart by my crit group. A necessary evil in this biz I've found. School has been cancelled. I think nearly every school in the state will be cancelled.
