Ch-ch-changes
I'm thinking of making the infant in my book an older child. I think then there can be more interaction between her and my hero. So poof, Lily may going to go from 7 months to 4 years. There are ways that that won't work either, so I have to weigh my options. I thought of giving my heroine two kids, but not sure how that'll work given her relationship with Lily's father.

So far the story is going okay. I'm not loving it, but at least I can see where it's going. It's a paranormal so I have to figure out how soon I should have Viviane actually see her ghost. And I don't know if she's going to be "Oh cool, I have a ghost." of "Oh my God! I can't stay here!" I think the former. Maybe I'll have to introduce a wacky friend who has a morbid interest in the paranormal.

Yeah! That'll work!

I love unexpected brainstorming.

Anyhue, I'm up to 10722 words. That means 39278 to go. 1571 per day to go. I need a really good day of writing to get that average down.

Word Counts Etc...
I'm doing okay with my word count. Up to 9557 words. I'm not overwhelmingly in love with it, but it still has enough possibilities to keep it going.

Thank goodness the elections are over! I think eact political party should have to remove their signs by 5pm the following day. Our intersections are nothing but signs and they're just not attractive.

And that's the only thing I'll say about this election.

So, I have 40443 words to go. That's only 1556 words per day. I'm trying to do at least 2000 or more a day. I'd like to be done well before the end of the month, especially when we have a holiday coming up.

Yeah!
I'm up to 7451 at the end of my third day of NaNo. I'm pretty darned pleased.

While I'm not blown over by the story, I really like the characters and I'm drooling over my model for the hero (see Diane's blog for more of Jeffrey Dean Morgan). I have to get them in a few scenes together, but I'm about to give them one right now. Okay, so he's quite a bit older than she is, but that should be okay.

Tomorrow I may have problems maintaining my momentum. It is, after all (for those who haven't been paying attention), election day. And it's Parent/Teacher conference day. All the schools in our district are closed and having these meetings. What a joy to have to schedule 3 meetings at 2 different schools. Fun fun.

Well, I've been hearing bad things from the new neighbors. I tell ya, from how I talk people must think I live in a dive in a horrible neighborhood. I really don't. I live in a nice neighborhood. My landlord just makes bad decisions as to who he rents his units out to. We got a really nice young couple, artsy, polite, just pleasant. Apparently they haven't been too impressed with the young guys who just moved in. They live directly underneath these guys and they're very loud at any time of the day. My DH hears them tramping up and down the stairs at all hours and apparently there was an incident with a girl acting a little, um, strange (to say the least) in less than appropriate clothing.... much less, and she was outside on our front porch.

Ugh. So the nice couple are planning on moving out.

It just makes no sense.

Anyhue.... 42549 words to go on NaNo. That means I need to average 1575 per day.

Piece o' cake!

And They're Off!

Well, I did better today than I was expecting. I ended up with 2934 words. Even though I had to work, I managed to get a bunch done during breaks and when I got home from work.

So the start is a bit slow, but that can be fixed at a later date. The goal is just to write write write.

Now I have to decide if I want to sleep in tomorrow or get up early and get more done.

Only 47066 words to go!! That means at I need to average 1623 words a day to make it through.

Easy peasy.

More Bad Weather, More Words, More Bad Neighbors
But first, THANKS TO DIANE. I won her January contest and received an awesome book yesterday. Please go check out her blog for her February contest.

Well, we have another storm pulling into town today. Another one. Didn't we just have one yesterday??? Um, I think we did. Yeah, I remember walking through an inch or so of slush in the parking lot at work. And now we're getting an all day event. I'm hoping it'll be mostly rain, but there's no guarantee. One thing is for sure, I wanted to throttle that bleeping groundhog. No, kidding, I wouldn't hurt an innocent little critter.

Even though I had planned on being pinned to my chair at my desk to write yesterday I unfortunately had to go out and do laundry. But I brought my handy dandy notebook with me and wrote lots of lovely pages. Currently in my notebook I'm working on The End, the epilogue and the happily ever after. I still have a bit to go before I can add it into the story on the computer but I'm thrilled that I'm there!! Well, almost there. Close enough.

Once again my delightful neighbors have blocked me in with their illegal parking. I shouldn't be surprised really, its a weekly event. And it doesn't work to complain, they don't care, and apparently my landlord doesn't care either because we've certainly brought it to his attention enough times. I just hope and pray I wasn't this rude and disrespectful when I was their age. No, I wasn't. My parents taught me manners and how to be responsible and considerate.

Okay, that was my vent for the day. Now I can get to more important things, like writing and working on contest ideas.

Nearly To My Next Goal

This is my cat, Miracle. I don't know why I posted this, but I thought my blog needed a picture.

My "official" word count is 94806 on Dreamer's Sea, but I have several handwritten pages that need to be typed up so right now I'm over 95k. But it is coming to an end though I've just started to write a pivotal scene which'll be the finale. Of course it'll be a long scene. And there'll be a epilogue. So, I guess I have to up my goal. Shall we say 100K?? Yikes.

I'm still figuring out what to do for a contest for a signed copy of Sweet Forever. I haven't decided if I should start it next Monday or have a special Valentines Day week contest. I'll come up with something.

I gave a copy of Sweet Forever to my mom for her birthday last Wednesday. She called after she started it on Thursday and told me that I wrote like a professional. LOL. Yesterday I stopped over there. She hugged me and told me that she finished the book and the ending made her weepy. She liked it! She really liked it! And I know my mom, she wouldn't say it if she didn't mean it. Yeah!

Well, the weekend, once again, was much too short. One day just doesn't cut it. And we spent most of the day on the road. My father in law is in the hospital up in Vermont so we drove up to visit him. It snowed all the way. It's a good 2 hour drive both ways. Then it was another hour or so going to pick up my daughter. I was ready to crash....not the car...my body on the couch.

But now I have to get ready for work.

Sometimes Ya Gotta Ask...What's The Point?
While I'm thrilled that I've reached over 90K on Dreamer's Sea I'm wondering if I'm just rambling now. What's the point of the story? Have I lost it by making it this long? At this point I just want it done. Over with. Kaput. Adios muchachos. Yet I find myself writing another scene... a scene that probably has no purpose. It was supposed to lead to the conclusion of the story but since I've decided to end the story another way then I wonder if I need this scene at all. Maybe it's time to just put this baby to bed. I'm so eager to start another writing project that at this point I don't even want to look at DS for the edits. Not yet. Sure I can't wait to start my search for an agent, but I don't want to sacrafice my story just to have it done.

So today after work I think I'll have to sit down and reevaluate where I am and where the story is heading. The last thing I want to do is to keep writing for the sake of a high word count. I'm already way over what any Harlequin or Silhouette line would take-not that I'm aiming for them necessarily.

Well we got about a foot of snow, all said and done, yesterday. It was a treat to shovel it. Luckily we have a snowblower that did most of the heavy stuff. Now I just wish our bleepin neighbors (teenagers basically) would get off their backsides and shovel out their parking spot instead of having their friends just driving through and over the foot of snow that's there or parking in someone elses spot. Oh how I want a house of my own.

It's Baaaaack
Winter in New England has returned. Any minute they're going to post that school has been cancelled today. Three kids will be thrilled and one kid will be bummed. But it matters not to me, I'll still be going to work. At least I can walk to work instead of driving. I really need to invest in a pair of snow shoes or cross country skiis for days like this.

I'm so close to my 90K mark on Dreamer's Sea! Wow! I've never written anything this long! It's the neverending story. I'm sure that means there'll be tons of stuff I can remove. I don't want it to be a boring story. But I do want it to be a finished story! Because I really really really want to get on with my next story. Oh, yeah, and I'm looking forward to having my baby ripped apart by my crit group. A necessary evil in this biz I've found.

School has been cancelled. I think nearly every school in the state will be cancelled.

A New Week
Okay, so I still have to write about 1800 words a day to finish NaNo. Can it be done??? Sure. If I really put my mind to it. I like the flow of the story, I'm trying to slowly build up the attraction between my hero and heroine. It wouldn't be believable otherwise, given who they are. I still have a lot of unanswered questions but that's my bad. I really didn't plot this one out as well as I should've. So, does my heroine go to live at the hero's house (not sleeping together) or does she go live at her employers house. It's a toss up. The hero would probably like to keep her closer so he can keep an eye on her.

I think I may have to add a little more mystery to her background. Maybe a mysterious death in her past. Hmmm....

Anyway, I have to start getting ready for work in a few. No holiday for our office. And I was a little ill to see the workload I've been dreading arrive. I'll be busy there for the rest of the holiday season.

Oh, and by the way, my word count is nearing 16K.

Less Than A Week...
I can't believe that in less than a week November will be here. The tough time of the year. It's not fair that we have all the expensive bills coming up at one time, you know, car registration (2), car inspections... birthdays and Christmas. We need to spread all this out over the year. And we're about to take on a car payment and really high registration fee. Oy. I better hope for some overtime.

I made it over 70K!!! I'm so pleased. I readjusted my goal to 75K though I should just bite the bullet and set it at 80K because at the rate I'm going it's going to happen. Wow, I havent' written something this long since Finally Home. I was beginning to wonder if I had it in me again. Guess I do.

I've been brainstorming (when I'm not working on Dreamer's Sea) my NaNo project. I have the story, which is the third part of a trilogy, but I'm just hoping it'll have enough plot to keep it going. It's fun though, developing the characters. I had an original idea for them but it keeps evolving. I'm not really worried about NaNo, besides wondering if I'll get enough time to write.

What makes me sad is that I'll have to put DS aside while I do NaNo because I dont' think I'll have the time to do both.

Oh, and GO RED SOX! They're up by 2 now!

And I Was Worried
I'm up to 62376 words in Dreamer's Sea and I still have much to write. I was so afraid that I wouldn't be able to get 65k out of it and now it looks like it could EASILY go to 70+K. That is a very good thing. The longer the story (as long as it's a really good story) the more marketable it will be to an agent.

I'm doing a touchdown dance in my head.

Just trying to get past a scene between my hero and heroine. I'm trying to justify them staying apart when the crazy kids are in love (though they haven't spilled the beans yet-hey, things are complicated). I was going to give them that scene later but I dont' think I can fight it. It's like giving birth, you can't fight it when that baby wants to make an appearance.

So, what would another writer do if a scene, a moment, is happening faster than you planned? Somehow squash the moment or give it to them have it and let the cards fall where they may? if I stop the moment it's going to make the whole thing awkward. But I have a great scene already written for them. If only they'd wait a few weeks.

My muse will be back on tv this Friday. Well, not my muse, but my inspiration for my hero in DS. Men In Trees has been off the air for months and months and they're finally giving us a season 2 premiere this week. Jack (aka John Tupper) is my Jonas in DS. It'll be good to have him back to gaze upon whenever I need a little inspiration.

Okay, breakfast and dishes time. And I'll mull over my predicament while I'm doing it.
